Phuket is much closer but as far as I know you can fly from either locations to Koh Samui then a boat to Koh Phangan.

The wooden Old House is noticeably old, due to its design. It is a 2 storey house with a huge roof, large enough to cover the second floor. It has a veranda, which is definitely ideal for appreciating the naturally stunning views surrounding it. There is a small flight of stairs to the porch and main door.
The Old House is owned privately by Grandpa Si and Granda Maen Hancharoen, but luckily it is open for free public viewing.
Another attraction tourists must not forget to visit whilst in Koh Samui, is the Laem Sor Pagoda. Hidden in a meditation forest, this seemingly golden edifice deserves to be seen by many.
