The Tropical Island of Koh Samui
Article by Simon Coleman
Thailand has some truly beautiful islands that are perfect for a relaxing chilled out holiday of a lifetime. The largest island is Phuket, known as the emerald in the isle it can cater to all types of tourists with secluded long stretches of beach and busy tourist areas. Koh Chang is the second largest, a favourite with Thai people and still relatively undeveloped.
The third largest island is Koh Samui, the place of pristine white sand beaches, coconut trees, bikini-clad tourists, and jet skis. There are still spots where peace and quiet can be found and, while most of the accommodation is in the mid to high range, there are also still some cheap wooden bungalows in the quieter areas. With its own international airport specially designed to fit in with the natural surroundings you can reach Samui in under an hour if you fly from Bangkok, there’s also other routes available including Singapore and Phuket.
There are no complaints from the visitors of Samui as it has plenty to offer including beach activities and water sports to a fun time after dark and trendy bars and clubs. The most visited areas are Chaweng, Lamai, Bophut and Maenam with a great range of facilities and accommodation so you’re guaranteed to find something whatever the state of your finances.
Due to a big expat community and thousands of tourists arriving here every week from all corners of the world the options in types of cuisine are extensive and your palate will be tempted by Italian, Swedish and Vietnames to French and English.
If you’re up for a bit of pampering then Samui is a destination where you can treat yourself every day to a haircut or manicure, a spa or massage. The treatments are reasonably priced and plentiful, try a traditional Thai massage and energy treatment or oil and warm stone massage, detox treatments and colonic irrigation are available for those wanting a deep cleanse whilst meditation and relaxing techniques, Yoga, Reiki, and Tai Chi are great when experienced outside in the warm tropical sunshine.
Family activities can be enjoyed in the form of elephant trekking up the mountain, the weather is excellent for sailing or book a scuba diving trip with PADI Diver Courses from complete beginner up to instructor level. Play on an international golf course or kayak in Ang Thong National Marine Park and discover the magical caves and bizarre rock formations amongst the dozens of deserted beaches whilst watching out for whales, dolphins and monkeys that live here.
Check out Chaweng as it’s the most popular area with 6km of sandy beach and sparkling blue waters. The area is packed with koh samui hotels and resorts, restaurants, spas, discotheques, bars and shopping opportunities. Lamai is also a popular beach and swimming and water sports can be enjoyed here. At the southern end look out for the famous Grandfather and Grandmother rock formations called Hin Ta – Hin Yai, you have to see them to realize why they catch the attention of so many people.
In the north is Maenam with soft sand and calm waters, perfect for families with small children as the water is shallow and it’s much quieter, particularly at night, than the busier areas. Catch a speedboat from the pier here to Koh Tao. Also in this area is Bophut which is a small fisherman village but still has an ample amount of restaurants and shops, as well as cafes and beachfront bars for enjoying the beautiful sunset and distant view of Koh Phangan on the horizon.
Big Buddha is another good place for swimming as its safe for children and you get unbelievable views of the 12 meter high golden Big Buddha and Koh Phangan. Restaurants, bars and shopping are all available here and the accommodation ranges from basic beach huts to tropical resorts. Catch a boat to Koh Phangan and the monthly Full Moon Party from the pier and party till the morning.

Full Moon Party Koh Phangan 2010 question by GOA: Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan (late May 2010) Is it safe and worth it?
I’ll be staying in Koh Samui for a week and can’t decide where I should go during the last weekend of my vacation in Thailand. The Full Moon Party will be going on in Koh Phangan during the last weekend of the month. I love partying, especially at outdoor parties, but I’ve read a lot of negative reviews about the Full Moon Party. I’m starting to question whether or not it would be worth taking the ferry out there or not. I keep reading that theft is on the rise, there are a bunch of out of control drunks running around, and some (not all) cops are corrupt. The more I read, the more it seems as though the whole “Full Moon Experience” may end up being a huge letdown.
The alternative would be to just head back to Bangkok and spend the last few days shopping and partying there.
Could someone give me the pros and cons to attending the party? Is it worth it, or should I just head back to Bangkok early. I love psytrance and love dancing the night away, but would you suggest partying it up elsewhere?
Any advice will be appreciated!

Answer by scottie322
For the experience its worth it but you have to take a few safeguards before you go – leave your valuables in your hotel safe, only take out the money you want to spend – do not get wasted on booze and never do drugs- the people who sell them to people then inform the cop’s .
No matter where you go you will always meet some drunken idiot so do not let them spoil your enjoyment.
If you think is not worth it then go to Pattaya instead of Bangkok.

OK hands up… I admit the Black Moon rave photos didn’t come out quite as well as I’d hoped. And the originals I have look much nicer for some reason… weird. You’ll see them much clearer if you click on the "all sizes" tab, and/or you have a bright monitor.

Organizing A Party In Pattaya?
Report by Lawrence Westfall
Many people go to Pattaya, Thailand and celebrate some occasion while they are there. No matter whether it be an anniversary, birthday, divorce, or nothing in distinct, there are lots of party venues to schedule your specific occasion.
I have been going to Thailand for above 30 years, have produced quite a few close friends there – each Thai and Expat and very suggest the following venues:
1. The FLB bar – owned by Martin and managed by Ricky down on Walking Street previous the massive tree – this is a really friendly hostess bar that will cater to your each whim. For about 12,000 Baht, about 300 dollars, you will have the time of your life. Exceptional meals from the Sportsman bar, fantastic, live entertainment from the Ugly Brothers band and some of the friendliest ladies in Pattaya. Martin also runs an exceptional forum at pattayatalk.com.
two. Cherry Bar – on Soi 8 and owned by a really friendly Brit – Adam. Adam has devoted his life to making this bar productive on a street lined wall-to-wall with related bars. He does an exceptional job of promoting his quaint tiny bar and bends above backwards to make you feel at home. And, you don’t even have to be a Brit to have a fantastic time here.
3. Lennies Bar – on Soi Diamond amongst Walking Street and 2nd Road – Paul, the manager, will ease all of your worries and make you feel at home as quickly as you walk in the door. As Eric Clapton said, this place will “ease you worried mind”. Parties can be arranged quickly – just see Paul.
four. Tequila Queen #two – just off of Walking Street and partially owned by Bob of Bob’s BBQ – modest, air-conditioned go-go bar that guarantees fantastic meals and a super time. It may possibly be modest, but the fun will be huge.
5. Secrets Bar – Last but not least by any implies. Ben utilised to be the manager at FLB but has moved onward and upwards and has set up his own bar, restaurant and hotel – the Secrets Hotel and Bar. On Soi 14 – just off of Walking Street Ben will make certain that you will have a super time. Ben is the host with the most and I have recognized him for above 7 years – he will take care of all your wants. Ben also runs a fantastic forum at pattayasecrets.com. The restaurant at Secrets – meals you would not believe, caters parties here.
So, if you are heading out to Pattaya, strategy a party. It can be for any occasion or just for the heck of it.

The stock marketplace is falling. The SET is going down. The bars will be closed for the elections. Some party will win and one more party will lose and Thailand will turn out to be unstable yet again. Earthquakes everywhere.

Some tips for being safe at Thailand’s Full Moon Party
Article by Dean Malachi
Have you heard about the Full Moon Party? You may have heard backpackers or tourists talking about it in your local bar. What is it you ask? Well it’s a party. But that doesn’t really describe what the Full Moon Party is. It’s a celebration that started on the tropical island of Koh Phangan in the late 80′s when a band of backpackers were hanging out in Thailand and they decided to have a party one day. Nowadays, the party has grown in size and sometimes gets over 20,000 people coming to celebrate the rising of the full moon. And what do all these amazing young people do there? Well mostly, they drink and dance of course. It is truly a night of insanity. And if you want to survive it in one piece, here are a few tips:First, be safe and be cautious. Remember you are in a third world country and the laws are often quite a lot more stricter than they are in the western world. You don’t want to end up in a Thai jail.Arrive early and get accommodation. The hotels will be packed. Full of people from every country on the globe and they all need a room. So, consequently, the prices can approach western levels — though they are still quite cheap. But realize that, as you get away from the beach, the prices are much more reasonable.Third, don’t ride a motorbike. The roads and the road lighting in Thailand is not all that great. Many many people have crashed and have been in horrible accidents on the island. I’ve seen it happen myself. So don’t play around with your safety. But follow these simple tips, and I’m sure you will have the time of your life at the Full Moon Party.

Full Moon Party Koh Phangan question by ClaytonO: To get to the Koh Phangan full moon party from Koh Samui, is a pre-booked ferry ticket required?
It is possible to get a ticket at the pier, preferably to Haard Rin, considering it will be full moon period and presumably quite busy?
Full Moon Party Koh Phangan best answer:
Answer by bradda
No, you can just get a ticket at the pier. On the other hand, I once booked a speed boat ticket and they dropped us off on the beach at the party, very fast and fun. The little travel booking shops have photos of the boats and can contact them.
